Materials Manager plans for the delivery, storage, collection, and distribution of materials, services, and products, while focusing on internal and end customer satisfaction and Metrics (KPIs) through supply chain management Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for leading manufacturing departments through directing, coaching, administering policies, implementing company projects, setting objectives, set the expectations of his/her supervisory staff, and responsible for the efficient operations of departments and meeting manufacturing plant objectives and goals.
This position will serve our
Water Heater Division, located in
Montgomery, AL. Responsibilities - Plans and manages activities, including receiving, inventory control, and timely distribution of raw materials and purchased parts to both internal and external customers.
- Plans and manages all activities, including timely release of orders for purchased components and raw materials and maintaining optimum inventory levels.
- Lead, direct and supervise the activities of the assigned departments through supervisory staff. Responsible for maintaining headcount and work within budget.
- Responsible to maintain and improve safety, quality, productivity, & inventory accuracy in the departments by assuring company procedures are followed and implementing ideas.
- Develop and implement new methods or processes utilizing other staff functions for assistance to reduce costs or improve measurables.
- Communicate and coordinate with subordinates so as to maintain an efficient flow of information to all employees within departments. Communicate expectations and measurables to all employees within group.
- Responsible for communicating and assuring company rules, policies and procedures are followed. Assure consistent application of policies and procedures.
- Administer the Performance Appraisal Policy for all salaried production employees.
- Effectively work with other departments to achieve overall company goals.
- Assure all ISO requirements are met for each department.
- Responsible for various improvement projects within the manufacturing group as assigned. Implement lean manufacturing techniques within the departments.
- Develop and train supervisors and other staff. Discuss career goals and training plans with subordinates. Cross-train employees within departments.
- Participate in budgeting process with plant leadership for departments owned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree with 7 years of experience or a combination of education and/or equivalent and/or transferrable experience in a manufacturing operations environment may be considered.
- Thorough knowledge of materials/logistics management with a heavy emphasis on Lean Manufacturing (i.e.; JIT, Kanban, push/pull systems, material throughput, department loading) MRP system management and inventory reduction.
- Production/shop floor experience.
- Must be team-oriented with strong leadership skills, hands-on style, and attention to detail, with prior experience supervising teams and developing subordinates.
- Demonstrated planning, organizing, communicating, and monitoring skills with proven successes.
- Computer literate with hands-on experience in word processing, spreadsheets, graphics programs, and MRP systems.
- Ability to manage and motivate people. Solid interpersonal skills.
How To Stand Out - Experience in high-volume steel fabricating facility or similar.
- APICS Certification
- Working knowledge of Oracle
- Working knowledge of High Jump (preferred)
