The State of New Hampshire, Judicial Branch, Supreme Court, has a full-time vacancy for Supreme Court Judicial Assistant.
Summary :
The Supreme Court Judicial Assistant is a highly responsible position managing complex administrative functions, schedules, and confidential communications for the Chief Justice and Associate Justices of the New Hampshire Supreme Court. The Judicial Assistant serves as the assistant to the justices of the Supreme Court and works closely with them daily, coordinating their meetings and schedules, preparing and distributing documents, and supporting the overall efficiency of the justices’ administrative functions. The work requires the exercise of independent and accurate judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and initiative.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
At least an associate degree from a college or university, with coursework in paralegal studies or judicial, public or business administration, and minimum of five years’ experience as a paralegal, program manager, executive assistant, or secretary in a court or in a legal, business, or public-sector or public-interest environment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities for successful performance of the job duties.
Licenses or Certifications
Notary public or the ability to become a notary public in the State of New Hampshire.

Successful completion of a background check, including a criminal records check.
Responsibilities:
Administrative Functions and Calendar Management
Coordinates and manages the Chief Justice’s schedule, briefings, and commitments.
Creates and manages the Court’s administrative calendar, schedules meetings for the Court or individual justices, and organizes logistics for those meetings, including booking rooms and/or virtual platforms, preparing agendas, sending invitations, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Handles the arrangements and logistics for the justices’ attendance at off-site meetings and functions. Oversees daily operations of the justices’ chambers by preparing and distributing documents, maintaining administrative files and records for the justices, supporting their involvement in special projects and initiatives, and ensuring an adequate inventory of office supplies. Plans and coordinates official Court ceremonies, including investitures of justices.
Document Preparation
Prepares reports, memoranda, agendas, and correspondence relating to the administrative work of the justices.
Assists the justices with preparing documents for presentations, speeches, and publications.
Communications
Screens and prioritizes visitors, calls, emails, and correspondence to the justices, and either routes the visitor/communication to appropriate personnel or handles the response. Facilitates open lines of communication with Legislative Branch leadership and Executive Branch officials, including State agency commissioners and leaders. Serves as the justices’ point of contact for state and federal judges, Judicial Branch employees, national and local bar/legal associations, public-interest organizations, and other stakeholders.
Court-Related Committees and Boards
Supports the Chief Justice’s appointing authority to boards, commissions, and other entities. Serves as the administrative assistant to various committees, commissions, and task forces by preparing agendas, taking minutes, preparing reports of proceedings, and establishing and maintaining related files.
Recruitment of Law Clerks and Externs/Interns
Coordinates the application, interviewing, selection, and onboarding and offboarding processes for the justices’ term law clerks and externs/interns.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
New Hampshire state government, appellate and trial court processes, and legal terminology.
English grammar, syntax, diction, and usage.
Office management, workflow coordination, and records management.
Preparing and proofreading legal documents.
Use of Microsoft Word, including document management, typography, layout, and formatting, and use of other Microsoft products, including Outlook, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
Conversion of documents into an electronic format suitable for external distribution.
Type accurately and rapidly.
Devote meticulous attention to matters of technical and administrative detail.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Work independently, collaboratively, and in complete confidentiality.
Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with the justices, law clerks, and other staff.
Organize, prioritize, and coordinate work activities and meet critical deadlines.
Use initiative and independent judgment within general policy guidelines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This is a full-time position based at the Supreme Court in Concord, NH. Some travel, extended hours, or evening meetings may be required. The position is exempt under New Hampshire law and is subject to the rules and policies of the judicial branch.
