Job Description

The Shipyard Planner will be responsible for managing and coordinating work authorization processes, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and aligning work packages with production schedules. This role requires a strong understanding of shipyard operations, including hot work, confined space controls, and tagout/lockout procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work Authorization Process: Create, process, and manage Work Authorization Forms (WAFs), tagouts, and similar work controls. Ensure these processes are integrated with safety, quality assurance (QA), production sequencing, and system turnovers.
  • Planning & Production Coordination: Collaborate with planning, engineering, and trades to issue and close WAFs. Read and interpret production schedules, blueprints, and system diagrams to avoid production delays.
  • System and Zone Familiarity: Maintain a working knowledge of shipboard systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, piping, propulsion) and understand how WAFs integrate with testing and inspection milestones.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Ensure WAFs feed into QA records, test packages, and system completion. Experience with ABS, NAVSEA, or USACE specifications is a plus.
  • Software Tools: Utilize electronic WAF systems, ERP tools (e.g., ShipConstructor), and be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and production tracking systems.
  • Communication and Coordination: Coordinate with Engineering, Trades, QA, Safety, and Program Management. Enforce accountability and escalate delays or discrepancies as needed.
  • Process Management: Manage high volumes of forms, track open items, and ensure compliance with all relevant procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Marine Technology, Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • OSHA 10/30, Confined Space Entry, Tagout, or Work Control certifications are a plus.
  • 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in a shipyard production environment, ideally in new construction or repair.
  • Primavera P6 experience
