Laboratory Technician I (HVAC) performs testing of basic components and systems in accordance with engineering specifications, procedures and acceptable industry standards in support of senior technicians.
This position will serve our
Water Heater Division, located in
Montgomery, AL. Responsibilities - Utilize blueprints, drawings, and manuals to assemble, fabricate, and troubleshoot test units
- Understand and apply industry test standards to complete development testing
- Understand and apply basic engineering principles to accurately collect flow, pressure, and temperature data on a test unit
- Setup, adjust, and modify test units and installations as necessary and perform the required testing in accordance with work request, engineering specifications, or defined test practices
- Collect, analyze, and summarize test data in clear, written reports by utilizing key Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Use general computer literacy skills to utilize and troubleshoot internally developed software applications and IT related issues
- Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain test equipment and instrumentation through calibration and preventative maintenance
- Utilize the various hand, cutting, welding, and brazing tools in the lab
- Complete assigned tasks and support intradepartmental product development teams according to defined requirements
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in work area and assigned zones
- Ensure laboratory equipment is current with respect to calibration
- History of regular and consistent attendance at work
- Ability to work overtime with no restrictions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications - Associates or Vo-tech Degree (2-year vocational program) from an accredited school in HVAC or related technical field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Successful completion of a Mechanical Aptitude assessment and demonstration of basic skill in the following disciplines: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, sheet metal design, and combustion
- Demonstrate understanding of the purpose of industry test standards and their impact on lab testing
- Demonstrate a basic understanding of material properties and engineering principles
- Experience with hand and power tools and an ability to utilize and maintain lab equipment and instrumentation
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting on test setups or test units
- Must possess general computer literacy and an ability to use key Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Demonstrate ability to work well and clearly communicate with others in a team environment
- Demonstrate an organized and detailed approach to test documentation and data collection
