Director of Lab Services

Location: San Antonio, TX

Summary:

The Director of Lab Services leads all aspects of laboratory operations, including Infectious Disease and Donor Acceptability Testing (Pre-analytical, Serological, Nucleic Acid, and Ancillary testing). This role ensures operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-quality service delivery in a 24/7 lab environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee all technical and operational lab functions, driving performance and innovation.
• Develop and implement strategic initiatives to meet 1–3-year business goals.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (FDA, CLIA, GMP, CAP, AABB, ISO, EU).
• Manage budgets, optimize costs, and support financial targets.
• Lead customer-focused improvements and maintain high service quality.
• Supervise and mentor lab teams, fostering collaboration, accountability, and growth.
• Utilize LIMS and data analytics to guide decisions and forecast operational needs.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement, Lean Six Sigma principles, and innovation.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or related field (Master’s preferred).
• MT or MLS (ASCP) required; SBB certification preferred.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• 7+ years of lab experience, including 5+ years in infectious disease testing and 2+ years in high-complexity lab supervision.
• Deep knowledge of clinical lab operations, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.
• Proven leadership, communication, and analytical skills in high-volume environments.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, 24/7 setting.
• Strong technical expertise in blood/plasma testing and diagnostic tools.
• Experience with Lean/Six Sigma and continuous improvement strategies.
• Excellent communication and team leadership abilities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and manage multiple priorities.
