Job Description

Location : First United Methodist Church of Marietta, Georgia, USA.

(Even though Marietta is “outside” the perimeter, it is considered a suburb of the city of Atlanta.)

Hours and Compensation: Full-time 40 hours/week, salaried exempt; $55,000-$65,000 commensurate with experience.

Timeframe to Start:  Negotiable. Preferred start September 1, 2025

Music at Marietta FUMC is an integral part of the spiritual experience of the congregation and the connected community. The role of the Ministry is two-fold: to Bring the community of faith into a deeper relationship with Christ through the gift of music, as guided by the Scriptures. Provide an opportunity and a place for members and friends to engage in musical acts and grow their talents to the glory of God.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Director of Music, lead Sunday Worship Services (and seasonal services like Maundy Thursday, Christmas Eve, etc.) through congregational hymns, choir anthems, and voluntaries.
  • Primary accompanist for adult choir (Wednesday evening), Children’s choirs (Wednesday afternoon), and Youth Choir (Sunday afternoon).
  • Perform at concert events as both soloist and accompanist, using our new Glatter-Götz, Op. 39, Organ to bring the community into the church.
  • Share Wedding and Funeral duties (for extra compensation).
  • Work with the Director of Music on fundraising, design, and organizing special events/concerts.
  • Work with the Director of Music, directing the handbell choirs.
  • Oversee the volunteers who work with the children’s choirs and music library.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the church organ, pianos, and handbells.
  • Fill in for the Director of Music on an as-needed basis.
  • Maintain regular office hours and attend required planning meetings.

Requirements and Skills:

  • Must be a team player with the ability to communicate, administer, and work cooperatively with clergy, staff, musicians, volunteers, and program participants of all ages.
  • A bachelor’s Degree in Organ or Piano is required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of prior experience in church music ministry preferred.
  • Participate in the shared life of the church, as time permits, engaging congregation members and partnering with staff members serving in other areas to advance our shared mission and ministry.
